How to Prevent CYVIO Cameras and NVRs from Overheating
During normal operation, CYVIO cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVRs) may experience increased temperatures, especially in high-load or high-temperature environments. To ensure stable performance and extend the lifespan of your devices, we recommend following the tips below to help prevent overheating.
1. Recommended Operating Temperature Range
Please ensure that your device is used within the appropriate ambient temperature range:
-
Standard cameras:
-10°C to +55°C (14°F to 131°F) -
Doorbell cameras:
-10°C to +50°C (14°F to 122°F) -
NVRs:
-10°C to +45°C (14°F to 113°F)
Operating devices outside these temperature ranges may lead to performance issues or hardware damage.
2. Avoid Direct Sunlight Exposure
Do not install cameras or NVRs in locations where they are exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
Choose shaded areas whenever possible and optimize the installation angle and position to help keep the device cool.
3. Ensure Proper Ventilation
If the device is installed inside an enclosed space or protective box, make sure there is adequate airflow.
Keep ventilation openings unobstructed, and avoid placing objects near or on top of the device that may block heat dissipation.
4. Check NVR Fan Operation
For NVR models equipped with cooling fans, regularly check that the fan is operating properly.
A malfunctioning fan can significantly reduce heat dissipation efficiency.
5. Use External Cooling Accessories if Necessary
If needed, you may install additional cooling solutions, such as:
- A small waterproof USB fan near the camera
- Clip-on heat sinks or cooling fans designed for bullet or PTZ cameras
These accessories can help improve airflow and reduce operating temperatures.
6. Optimize Software Settings
Under normal usage conditions, you can reduce device workload by disabling unnecessary features:
-
Frame rate:
Reduce the frame rate from 30 FPS to 15 FPS if high frame rates are not required. -
Bitrate & encoding:
Lower the bitrate or adjust the encoding settings while maintaining acceptable image quality. -
Event & AI features:
Disable features such as motion detection or intrusion detection when they are not needed, as these functions require continuous AI processing.
