How to Set up Continuous Recording on SD card, NVR?
Continuous recording allows your camera to record video continuously during a specified time period.
This article will guide you on how to set up loop (continuous) recording on SD cards and NVR systems.
1. Which CYVIO Products Support Continuous Recording?
The table below shows which CYVIO products support continuous recording and where the recording settings can be configured.
-
Note:
Battery-powered cameras enter sleep mode to save power and therefore do not support continuous recording.
Recording Storage Explanation
- Standalone cameras can store continuous recordings directly on the camera's SD card.
- Non-standalone cameras (such as D101 and W301) must connect to an NVR to operate, and their continuous recordings are stored on the NVR hard drive.

2. How to Set the Recording Time Period and What to Consider?
When Continuous Recording mode is enabled, you need to configure the recording schedule to cover the required time period.
In many important scenarios—such as areas that require constant monitoring—event-triggered recording alone may not be sufficient.
Continuous recording ensures that every moment and event is fully captured.
After recording, you can search and play back videos using:
- CYVIO App
- CYVIO CVMS Lite
- NVR System
Important Consideration: Storage Usage
Continuous recording consumes storage continuously, which means the SD card or hard drive may fill up quickly.
To extend recording duration, consider the following options:
1. Upgrade storage capacity
Use a larger SD card or a higher-capacity hard drive to increase available storage.
2. Adjust camera video settings
Reduce file size by adjusting:
- Bitrate
- Resolution
- Encoding mode
This helps extend recording time without changing storage hardware.
